I didn't always used to be a programmer. There was a time in my life that I thought restaurant management was where it was at. But about 12 years ago, I became heavily interested in the internet, and how it works.
When I first got started online, my goal was to try to find a way to make money online. I thought I had found the answer when I fist discovered dropshipping (doesn't everyone?). So, I learned html and cgi perl (for all of your noobs out there, that was the predecessor to php) and built myself an ecommerce storefront, and planned to sell drop shipped video games. The only problem was, I had no traffic, and therefore no sales.
So, determined that i would figure out how to make a buck or two online, I began to study the various techniques and strategies to drive traffic to a website. At first, I tried all of the easy ways out (doesn't everyone?). I tried purchasing pop up advertising, and quickly discovered that while traffic was greatly increases, no one purchased anything. Next I tried banner advertising, which did a little better, but no where close to getting any kind of decent ROI. I was even stupid enough to fall for one of those 'guaranteed number 1 spot in Google.
